Teacher Services: Subject and Class Guides

Check back here soon for specific subject guides

What is a subject guide?

Subject guides identify information resources available to teachers and students in an academic discipline.

Resources may include subscription databases, reference sources, primary sources, websites, streaming audio/visual sources, and of course, books and eBooks.

While a subject guide is not comprehensive, resources are curated to align with curriculum standards and to expand students' inquiry-based learning beyond their classroom texts.

A subject guide pulls together the best resources available in the broad discipline for high school and college-and-career bound students. When students go to college or use their public libraries, they will also need to know how to find and use subject guides.

What is a Class Guide?

Class guides are similar to subject guides, but they provide:

  1. A more focussed, curated list of resources for the specific unit or project.
  2. Information and media literacy process skills appropriate for the grade level and field of study.
