Mission and Vision

Mission and Vision

CVUSD Libraries adhere to and support the district and school's mission and vision.

Circulation

  • 14-day Check Out. Books and eBooks may be checked out for 14 days.
  • Renewals. Books may be renewed for additional days at the Circulation Desk or in the user's Destiny account online.
  • Holds. Books may be placed on hold in the user's Destiny account. If not picked up in 5 days, held books are returned to the stacks. Teachers may place longer holds on books, particularly for books used in Literature Circles. The library retrieves holds lists from Destiny in the morning and puts the books on the holds shelf for pick up, typically within one day.
  • Student accounts. Students may check their accounts online or at the circulation desk for items checked out or on hold.

Donations, No Fines

  • Donations ($), not Fines or Replacement Copies. To encourage worry-free reading and shared responsibility for the library,
    • There are no fines for overdue, lost or damaged books.
    • Accidents happen. If you lose or damage a book, we suggest a $30 donation to the library per book (Cost+processing). If you are unable to donate at this time, please still let us know so that we can remove the copy from the catalog and add the title to our future purchases wish list.
    • We do not accept replacement copies. The library acquires books in specific formats, editions, and with certain technical processing pre-applied. Monetary donations are strongly preferred.

Food in the Library

New Policy and Pilot Program!

Food and drink are permitted in the library after Taking the Pledge to keep the library clean.

Bring your own cup with lid. Cups with lids are required.

Visit the Take the Pledge page and complete the 3 steps prior to eating or drinking in the library. Read more about the Take the Pledge pilot program on that page.

Each person who brings food and drink to the library (including guests to events) must

  • Take the Pledge to keep the library clean (complete a form)
  • Sign up for TWO afterschool library cleanup events
  • Wear a green "I Love CVHS Library, I Took the Pledge" lanyard in the library when eating or drinking

Donations or loans of the following cleaning supplies and equipment for cleanup days are very much appreciated!

  • Wet wipes
  • Rubber gloves
  • Buckets
  • Microfiber cloths
  • Empty spray bottles (rinsed, cleaned and reusable)
  • Tissues (aka Kleenex)
  • Dishsoap
  • Carpet shampooer, heavy duty (4 -6 times per year)
  • Outdoor broom

Technology Access and Use

Learning in the digital age requires regular access to the internet, computers, as well as audiovisual hardware and software, content integrations with publishers, content providers, and between learning and library management systems.

Through the CVHS Library, students and staff have access to wifi, loaner laptops, recharging stations, printers, mobile podiums, speakers and a projector.

Access to curated digital content is provided through the hybrid print-and-digital library which operates an integrated, cloud-hosted, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) suite:

  • Library Management System (LMS) (Destiny Discover)
  • Content and Events Management System (CMS) (Springshare LibApps)

Students gain access to library accounts, subscription databases and other published content through the LMS-CMS and their Google Classrooms. Access to databases varies by publisher and is described for each database in the A-Z list on the library homepage.

Library technologies are provided as educational tools for students, staff and the community for teaching and learning. Class and coursework related use of this equipment takes priority.

Laptops and Chargers

In Library Use Only

  • Loaner Chromebooks. The library has a limited number of Chromebooks available for check-out for in-library use only. While there are no fines for damaged library Chromebooks, in the event of damage, the suggested donation to the library is $350.
  • Recharging @ the Library. The library provides Chromebook chargers and cell phone chargers for in-library use only.
  • Personal use technologies. Students may use personal laptops, cell phones, headphones and other devices in the library.
  • Library staff are NOT responsible for technology items left in the library (cell phones, Chromebooks, earbuds.)
  • Lost and Found. When found, student's items are put behind the circulation desk or in a bin at the front of the library. Items may be moved to the central campus Lost and Found after a few days.

Printing

  • The library has two high capacity printer/photocopiers for student use on school projects.
  • Free printing / photocopying.
  • 30 pages maximum.
  • Black and white only. No color.
  • In-library use only. Printers are not networked. To print, students go to a kiosk Chromebook that is connected to each library printer and log in to their Google Account. (The kiosk Chromebook has the appropriate printer-drivers installed.)
  • Student use. Library printers are intended for student use only.
    • Teachers and staff are encouraged to use the staff print rooms throughout the campus.
    • Visitors are encouraged to bring items pre-printed or photocopied for meetings.

Teaching Technologies

  • Teachers bring their own laptops to the library for instruction.
  • Teaching technologies are available for booking with the classroom and for in-library use only.
    • 1 mobile podium with projector with extra long HDMI cable
    • 1 mobile teacher's podium with speakers, sound, USB-C and HDMI connectors and chargers
    • Portable microphone
    • Recording microphone
    • Event speakers
    • Dongle for HDMI, USB-C, USB

    • Wrap up cords and store them neatly on the podiums.
    • Keep cords taped down to the podiums, and with those podiums.
    • Store technologies safely in the library Technical Service storage room.
    • Return supplies taken from the main desk.
  • Suggested donations to the library for damaged technologies are as follows. Please do not supply replacement items.
    • Podium $450
    • Projector $500
    • HDMI or other cables  $30-100
    • Portable Microphone $150
    • Recording Microphone $250
    • Classroom speakers $400
    • Event speakers $700

Lost and Found

Lost and found items are placed in the "lost and found" box at the front of the library.

Technology items (earbuds, laptops, cell phones) are put behind the library circulation desk.

Please look for and pick up your items promptly. The library has limited space and staff to manage a lost and found operation.

On Friday afternoon, library staff discard all items in the lost and found box.

CVHS staff including library staff and TAs are not liable for any damage or loss to items while held in the "lost and found" box or circulation desk.
