CVHS Library is making way for new books. Science fiction, fantasy and Historical Fiction titles are available.

Teachers, visit the library conference room Monday and Tuesday to take any deaccessioned books for your class libraries. Students and all other staff are invited to take the remainder of the books on Wednesday through Friday.

CVHS Library and English teachers invite rising Juniors and Seniors taking APEL or HAmLit next year to participate in in the CVUSD Reads! Summer Reading Challenges.  CVHS Library is piloting Beanstack to incentivize reading. Students log their reading, earn badges and incentives. Encourage students to join. Get started on the library website.

Castro Valley High School teachers, students and staff now have access to the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) through the library. It is so much more than your basic dictionary! Check it out on the Library Database A-Z list.

Search for any word in the Oxford English Dictionary and get a definition, pronunciation (British and American English), word history and historical synonyms.  This is a great resource to build your vocabulary or to use in English classes.

On February 13, Advanced Spanish students from Ms. Christensen's class celebrate Black History Month at the library with a unique book display. CVHS Advanced Spanish students have researched Afro-Latino authors and will showcase their research skills and the authors' works at the library.

Explore Afro-Latino authors in this intersectional book display starting February 13th. Class visits are welcome beginning February 14th. Many genres including Sci-Fi and graphic novels.

Any CVHS student may check out a book that is on display, read a bilingual review of the book written by a CVHS student, listen to a book trailer or listen to an author interview. Bring your cellphones to access the QR codes!

The display will remain in the library until the end of the month.

Please encourage students to explore authors that bring a unique perspective to literature and our world!

Don't have a date! Go on a Blind Date with a Book. Rate your date after you read it!

Was it love at first read? Friend zone? Awkward but funny? or a hard pass - not my vibe!?

How it works

Visit the library to select your date. Each book is in an envelope with a hint drawn on the front. Kaelyn Anderson, Library TA, has decorated each envelop beautifully. Take out one of the envelopes, drop it off at the library when you're done, and rate your date!

BDWB and student artwork is brought to you by Library TAs extraordinaire: Natalyi Feldenheimer and Kaelyn Anderson.

CVHS students, teachers and staff now have access to current editions of the New York Times while on the high school campus, compliments of CVHS Library.
