Students and staff, please check your lockers and classrooms and return your library books. It's that time of year!
Inventory week begins early this year (May 12), and we want to make sure all books are returned for inventory. The library will close May 15 and 16 to take final inventory.
Once inventory is complete, the Library will announce its summer reading program and reopen for summer check outs.

The Library student printers will be unavailable 1 more week (April 29-May 2) while the library connects the new printers, secured USBs and prepares student training materials.
CVUSD Libraries, in collaboration with the Assistant Superintendent for Education Services and the CVUSD Board, are in the processing of writing a collection development and reconsideration policy to guide the ongoing development of the libraries' print and digital collections across the district.
A collection development policy is a foundational policy that all libraries have and which guides the healthy development of library collections over time. Library staff steer by it; transparency helps teachers, administrators and families to understand the libraries’ mission and support it.
This effort is a top priority among CVUSDs libraries as they currently operate without a Collection Development Policy. In 2024-2025, a CVUSD Task Force of librarians, with the support of Education Services, conducted an environmental scan of collection development policies, existing Board, state and national guidelines to inform the future adoption of a policy for our libraries.
Recommendations for policy options to advance equity, inclusion and inquiry-based learning in the libraries' print and digital library collections were included. Feasibility analyses were conducted for policy options that would improve and expand access to information resources for students and advance collaboration across school libraries.
The Task Force, with the support of a leadership Advisory Group, will complete their work and draft a policy in summer 2025, for Board consideration. If approved, implementation will occur in academic year 2025-2026 for all school libraries.

The Library's printers for student use remain offline. Teachers, please accommodate your students' printing needs or encourage printing at home for those students who are able.
CVHS Library will proctor up to 25 SBAC tests each period, all subjects, during the school day for students who forget their school laptops.
The library will be closed during the school day to administer SBAC tests and partially closed after school for setup and breakdown.

The library will open for study hall after school with limited seating (25 seats) in the quiet zone and book aisles. The classroom proctoring area will be unavailable after school use, including the library bathroom. Please plan accordingly.

National Poetry month is here! CVHS Library is celebrating with poetry collections for beginners, aficionados and activists.

Alameda County Registrar of Voters will be at CVHS Library Friday April 18 to answer students' questions about registering to vote and assist students who are 16 years and older to pre-register or register to vote.
Students can get their questions answered, engage in fun trivia questions and register online or pick up registration forms.
Lost something? The last chance for students to find their stuff is next week. After that, the lost and found at the library will wind down for the year. Students will be invited on a needs aware basis initially to take whatever they can make use of from the lost and found.

* The approach to handling Lost and Found at the end of year was designed by Library Teaching Assistants as part of their work on Student-Lead Library Services. Lessons learned will be passed on to future Library TAs for process improvements.
